functional description

As a Windows Systems Administrator at Concordant, you will be responsible for managing, configuring, and maintaining computer systems running on the Windows operating system. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the integrity, security, and high availability of our servers and systems.

  • Manage the functionality and efficiency of computer systems running on a Windows operating system.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, monitor, and maintain hardware and software to meet the user requirements.
  • Maintain the integrity and security of servers and systems.
  • Work with the Computer Systems Engineer to configure the system according to requirements.
  • Analyze systems to keep systems current with changing technologies.
  • Install new software, troubleshoots, grants permissions to applications, and trains users.
  • This job includes analysis, configuration, installations, upgrades, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, patching, securing and repair of Windows servers in a heterogeneous Windows environment.
  • Program in PowerShell and works as “admin” on all production systems.
  • Update systems and make recommendations on server configurations and implement changes in multiple environments from test or development to production.
  • Possess a strong command line background in Windows.
  • Address and resolve complex OS issues.
  • Ensure software and hardware function as required.
  • Ensure high availability and resiliency of production systems.
  • Deploy in physical and or virtual environments like VMware, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure.
  • Harden computer systems consistent with security practices and established guidelines.
  • Follow established configuration management requirements.
  • Support and travel as required the remote Disaster Recovery facility.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve files service issues with Network File Service and storage with NetApp.
  • Work with configuration management tools like Chef, Puppet or SaltStack.

Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of Windows operating systems, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience in installing, configuring, upgrading, and maintaining hardware and software on Windows-based systems to meet user requirements.
  • Strong understanding of system security principles and best practices to maintain the integrity and security of servers and systems.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies.
  • Proficiency with configuration management tools like Chef, Puppet, or SaltStack for managing and automating system configurations.
  • Knowledge of implementing high availability and resiliency strategies for production systems to ensure continuous operation.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex operating system issues, including addressing file service issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues, users, and stakeholders.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Relevant certifications in Microsoft technologies, such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert.
  • Previous experience in designing, implementing, and managing Windows-based systems in a heterogeneous environment.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and managing Windows systems in cloud environments, particularly AWS, Azure, or other major cloud platforms.
  • Proficiency in automating system tasks using PowerShell scripting or other scripting languages.
  • Knowledge of backup and recovery strategies for Windows-based systems, including disaster recovery procedures.
  • Experience in monitoring system performance, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing system performance.
  • Understanding of networking concepts and protocols as they relate to Windows-based systems.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies, tools, and best practices in Windows system administration.
