functional description

As a System Administrator, you will be responsible for the effective operation and management of our computing systems, ensuring seamless hardware and software performance and safeguarding the integrity and security of our servers. Your role will encompass a range of technical and operational duties.

  • Manage the functionality and efficiency of a computing system(s) running on one or more operating systems.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, monitor, and maintain hardware and software to meet user requirements.
  • Maintain the integrity and security of servers and systems.
  • Work with the Computer Systems Engineer to configure the system according to requirements.
  • Conduct systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies.
  • Install new software, troubleshoots, grants permissions to applications, and trains users.
  • Program in administrative languages including Perl, sh, or Python.
  • Works with “root access” on production systems.

Requirements:

  • Proven ability to manage the functionality, efficiency, and security of computing systems, including experience with servers, storage, and networking components.
  • Knowledge of system security best practices, including patch management, access controls, encryption, and threat detection/mitigation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues efficiently.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Perl, sh, Python) for automation and system management tasks.
  • Experience with various operating systems (e.g., Linux, Windows Server) and familiarity with both command-line and graphical user interfaces.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with other IT professionals, engineers, and end-users.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and stay updated with industry trends.
  • Previous experience working with “root access” on production systems and understanding of the associated responsibilities.

  • Professional certifications related to system administration.
