functional description

As a Network and Telecommunications Technician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficiency, reliability, and compatibility of our telecommunications and data network systems. Your responsibilities will encompass a diverse range of technical and operational tasks.

  • Testing, evaluating, and recommending telecommunications and data network systems.
  • Analyzing workload, including traffic and utilization trends.
  • Collaborating with users, consultants, technical teams, and vendors for maximum guidance in determining the most appropriate type of hardware installation.
  • Providing support for complex PCs and LAN/WAN networks throughout the organization.
  • Requires advanced knowledge and experience in the area of local and wide area networking, communications, and related hardware and software.
  • Identifying areas of operation that need upgraded equipment, such as wireless AP, fiber optic cables, VOIP, and telephone wires.
  • Conduct physical surveys for audits and data quality assurance.
  • Perform Layer 1 network service connections and disconnects.
  • Read technical manuals and brochures to determine equipment that meets establishment requirements.
  • Visit vendors to learn about available products or services.
  • Test and evaluate hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems, using equipment such as computer terminals and modems.
  • Analyze test data and recommend hardware or software for purchase.
  • Developing and writing procedures for installation, use, and solving problems of communications hardware and software.
  • Monitor system performance.
  • Instruct users in use of equipment and assists users to identify and solve data communication problems.
  • May design and develop complex software interface programs.
  • May write technical specifications to send to vendors for bid.
  • May oversee or assist in installation of communications hardware.
  • May perform minor equipment repairs.

Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge and experience in local and wide area networking (LAN/WAN), telecommunications, and related hardware and software.
  • Strong technical skills in testing, evaluating, and recommending telecommunications and data network systems, including analyzing traffic and utilization trends.
  • Experience in testing and evaluating hardware and software to determine efficiency, reliability, and compatibility with existing systems, using tools such as computer terminals and modems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with users, technical teams, consultants, and vendors to determine appropriate hardware installations and communicate technical procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify areas for equipment upgrades and recommend solutions for improving network connectivity, such as wireless access points, fiber optic cables, VOIP, and telephone wires.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a network technician, telecommunications technician, or in a related role with hands-on experience in testing, evaluating, and implementing network and telecommunications solutions.
  • Understanding of telecommunications technologies, including Voice over IP (VoIP), telephone wiring, and data communication protocols.
  • Proficiency in developing and writing procedures for installation, use, and problem-solving of communications hardware and software.
  • Familiarity with monitoring system performance and analyzing data to ensure network efficiency and reliability.
  • Basic understanding of software interface programs and the ability to develop and write technical specifications for vendor bids.
