functional description

As a Linux/Solaris Systems Administrator, you will play a vital role in managing and maintaining the efficiency of computer systems running on Linux or Solaris operating systems. Your responsibilities will encompass a diverse range of technical and strategic tasks.

  • Managing the functionality and efficiency of computer systems running on Linux or Solaris operating systems including hardware, operating systems, virtual platforms and applications.
  • Upholding the integrity and security of servers and systems by adhering to established security protocols and practices.
  • Collaborating with the Computer Systems Engineer to configure the system according to requirements.
  • Analyzes systems and to keep systems current with changing technologies.
  • Installing new software, troubleshooting issues, grants permissions to applications, and trains users.
  • Conducting analysis, configuration, installations, upgrades, monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, patching, compiling, securing and repair of Linux/ Solaris servers in a heterogeneous environment.
  • Perform system updates, make recommendations on server configurations, and implement changes in multiple environments from test or development to production.
  • Creating and automating tasks using scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and PHP.
  • Systems Administrators respond to alerts, customer reported issues, escalate problems as required, and resolve significant matters exercising independent judgment and within established support practices.
  • Address and resolve complex OS issues.
  • Ensure software and hardware function as required.
  • Ensure high availability and resiliency of production systems.
  • Deploy in physical and or virtual computer environments like VMware, Amazon Web Services, Solaris Logical Domains.
  • Hardening computer systems consistent with security practices and establishing guidelines.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving file service issues with Network File Service and storage with NetApp.
  • Adhering to established configuration management requirements.
  • Supporting and traveling as required the remote Disaster Recovery facility.
  • Work with configuration management tools like Chef, Puppet, or SaltStack.

Requirements:
• Possess a strong command line background in Solaris and or Linux operating systems, like Red Hat Enterprise Linux or CentOS.
• Familiarity with IT security concepts for Linux compute environments is essential.
• Experience with cloud technologies is desired.
• Proficiency with Windows and in using LDAP for authentication will be highly valued.
