functional description

The HPC Lead Engineer is responsible for formulating and overseeing the implementation of the HPC strategy for JPL. This position will interact with key stakeholders and users to assess their needs and inform them of HPC options available to them. This position will also identify and propose new HPC technologies for the benefit of the lab. The HPC Lead Engineer will report to the HPC CTM.

  • Collaborating with key stakeholders and users to assess their HPC needs, inform them of available resources, and explore emerging technologies.
  • Identifying and proposing new HPC technologies that align with the needs and goals of the organization.
  • Regularly interacting with projects across all phases to facilitate effective HPC use and ensure alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Continually researching and evaluating emerging HPC technologies that could benefit JPL.
  • Managing relationships with key HPC vendors and service providers to optimize resources and solutions.
  • Providing direct input into the HPC strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Assuring adherence to the HPC strategy and collaborating with management to adjust the strategy as needed.
  • Designing system/service automation solutions.
  • Developing environment design for the on-Lab systems, including resource scheduler.
  • Serving the HPC user community by offering customer engineering support and expertise.

Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge of HPC hardware, software, networking and storage systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Splunk for automated log review, alerting, and data analytics.
  • Ability to prioritize and work on several competing tasks a the same time.
  • Detail oriented with the ability to document reporting requirements and specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to write professional emails, letters, proposals, and training material.
