functional description

As a Data Center Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the seamless operation of our data center facilities.

  • Responsible for supporting the installation, removal, configuration management, delivery and staging of hardware.
  • Inputs the information that controls and tracks the hardware for the data center.
  • Installs and manages configurations for all test equipment.
  • Manages physical security measures, key access, and software configurations for the Data Center Information Management tool.
  • Assisting in the coordination of Data Center maintenance, escorts personnel, installs, configures, and maintains server hardware, operating systems, applications, and supporting peripherals, supports the Systems Administrator, site administrators, facility engineers, and utility personnel.
  • May monitor data center vitals like power consumption, cooling, heating, uninterruptable power system health, lighting, network connectivity, rack (cooling, heating, and power) or device (cooling, heating and power) and take corrective action as necessary.
  • Ensures the availability of enterprise computing environments through daily, preventive, and remedial maintenance, and under direct supervision assist with network hardware, servers, cooling and power.
  • Contributing to the creation, maintenance, and updating of technical documentation, facility drawings, configuration management information, network diagrams, and physical and logical network diagrams.
  • Maintain policies, procedures, user guides, status reports, and other documents.
  • Upholding safety protocols and ensuring a secure working environment for all personnel entering and servicing the data center and IT hardware.
  • Demonstrate your ability to manually restore power and communications in the event the primary backup systems fail
  • Travel as needed in support of installation and removal of hardware from the remote Disaster Recovery Facility.
  • Coordinate with the escort facilities and IT servicing personnel.

Certifications / Other

Additional education or certifications in information technology, computer science, or related fields could be beneficial.

Requirements:

  • Strong technical knowledge of data center hardware installation, configuration, and maintenance. Familiarity with server hardware, operating systems, network equipment, and supporting peripherals.
  • Excellent attention to detail when managing hardware configurations, tracking equipment information, and updating documentation.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with team members, facilities personnel, and IT servicing personnel.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a data center technician, IT technician, or in a related technical role is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using data center management tools, configuration management software, and network diagnostic utilities.
